“Buffalo grocery store where 10 were killed in racist shooting is only supermarket for miles” The fact that there are no other options lays bare the racial and economic divide in Buffalo."
Before the Tops Grocery Store came to the East Side of Buffalo, this neighborhood was a “food desert” where residents had to go miles to other neighborhoods to purchase fresh foods, in particular fruits and vegetables at fair prices. The supermarket also became a community hub as the ABC affiliate in Buffalo confirmed. Tops remains closed and this neighborhood in Buffalo is once again a “food desert.”
These are the black victims of the white shooter at the Tops Supermarket on the East Side of Buffalo. That 18-year-old white shooter and self-described white supremacist, Peyton Gendron from 3 hours away, was indicted on 25 counts and pleaded not guilty to all of them. As in other mass shootings, those whose lives touched these ten and the three wounded will never be the same.
These are only TWO of the over 240 locations where mass shootings have occurred thus far this year. I could have included Philadelphia, Chatanooga, or Chicago and many other cities. I am looking at Buffalo, New York, and Uvalde, Texas however because these mass shootings have gotten a good deal of press and involve shootings in public places, a grocery store and a public school .

Uvalde, Texas
-Mathew McConaughey is an Uvalde, Texas native. His statement on responsible gun ownership: appears on this month's CivicScroll page which focuses on Guns In America.
19 students and three teachers were murdered in the Uvalde Texas school shooting. Not only the parents and extended families of these children will suffer but all of those people who were ever touched by any of them- and those Americans with a heart.
The children who lost their lives in Uvalde were in fourth grade and only beginning to formulate and articulate their own hopes and dreams.
In addition to the horrors of the slaughter in Uvalde, it appears as if there is nothing less than a police cover-up of massive proportions associated with the shootings. The Justice Department has even stepped in to analyze how the investigation into the incident is carried out. Uvalde, Texas appeared to have an unusually enormous police and border control, and armed officers, within it, paid for by local and state resources.
In their biggest test on May 24, 2022, those with guns- failed.
